The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the administrative representative of the El Paso County Medical Society (EPCMS), charged with furthering its Mission and stated goals. The CEO facilitates the Society's success as an effective and efficient Medical Society in today's political and medico-legal environment through advocacy, organizational, operational and financial leadership, furthering Board governance, outreach, communication, and by maintaining current knowledge of relative local, state, and national developments. The CEO provides strategic direction in tandem with the Board of Directors and serves to motivate and lend focus for the fundamental functions of the Society as it relates to all services, programs and members. Fundamental to the CEO's success is an understanding of strategy and strategic thinking, a focused, proactive approach to positive leadership, team building, and staff management, member outreach, and the ability to operationalize/actualize strategy using varied methods of application. Guided by the EPCMS Mission Statement, the organizational strategic plan is annually updated in a transparent and inclusive manner that keeps the Society goal-oriented and its value proposition aligned
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNABILITIES (including but not limited to the following)
The CEO must be a team leader and motivator, transparent in the operations of EPCMS, believe in the role of physicians in society, loyal to EPCMS, its members and staff.
Leads all facets of Society operations including finance and accounting, membership, IT, human resources, member, staff and community communications, legal affairs, public affairs, and subsidiary Foundations.
Works closely with CMS and its other component organizations to ensure overall alignment of goals, strategy, legislative opportunities, operations and events.
The CEO will serve as the primary staff to the Board of Directors and will maintain the Board's current mode of operations unless otherwise agreed to by the Board and the CEO.
Responsible for developing and implementing the tactics of an annual operational plan established and approved by the Board of Directors in accordance with EPCMS policy.
Works with the Board President and/or Executive team on a consistent basis to ensure high levels of communication, understanding and timelines for forward facing implementation of strategic plans and policies. This includes the preparation of all required, requested, supporting and informational reports, statistics, plans, timelines and materials for Board meetings, special meetings, or events. Is responsible for bringing to the Board's attention any major internal (within the medical profession) or external events that might give the Board cause to adjust the operational plan in between its scheduled updates.
Accountable for working collaboratively with the Board to maintain a member-driven, realistically achievable strategic plan while aligning financial resources to the plan priorities
Establishes and grows strong collaborative relationships with all stakeholders.
Aligns budgetary resources with priorities and is accountable for all aspects of the annual EPCMS budgeting process and the active management of Society budgetary resources throughout the fiscal year.
Execute effective communications with the membership for information sharing, event promotions, member benefits and other news pertinent to EPCMS members.
Manage and grow opportunities to develop sources of non-dues revenue, e.g., annual sponsors, advertising revenue, program sponsorship or exhibits, or opportunities to partner with other organizations.
Establish, implement, and lead events and programs helpful to the membership and consistent with the Society's mission. Establish recruitment and outreach activities to ensure the continued growth, member retention and viability of EPCMS. This may be through newsletters, websites, links, partnerships, events, collaborations or other modes/means of communication and participation of which the members feel value.
The CEO is responsible for overseeing communications from and through EPCMS.
Lead and build EPCMS staff and/or contract labor and delegate tasks appropriately.
Administer other association management duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will have a master's degree or equivalent experience in a health or business-related field with a minimum of 7 years' leadership experience in health care, non-profit, organizational and/or medical society management. The individual will be a skilled communicator, team builder and leader who is able to effectively work and collaborate with varied types of organizations, societies, vendors, partners, members and associates (including such organizations as EPCHD, CHP, non-profits, health systems, health care professionals, hospitals, attorneys, HR personnel, community outreach partners, insurance plans, MRC, volunteers, component and specialty societies) The individual will be a skilled negotiator, possess sound analytical and decision making skills, be able to multi-task and possess a high level of business acumen. The CEO must be a short-and long-term strategist with a big picture outlook while leading short term strategy to action in a results-oriented environment. Possess the ability to inspire stakeholders to work collaboratively and effectively. Strong background in Board management preferred.
El Paso County Medical Society (EPCMS) is a 501c(6) organization located in Colorado Springs, CO. EPCMS is a service organization formed to provide foundational support to our physician membership. Member benefits and functions of the Society are to further our mission through physician peer events, CME access, training and staff education opportunities, access to physician directories and newsletters, partnership access for relative services and desired services. EPCMS works in collaboration with other state Medical Societies and with the Colorado Medical Society to align our mission and support services.
