The Colorado Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA Colorado) is a professional membership association for approximately 1,500 Colorado urban planners providing vision and leadership for the advancement of Colorado communities. APA Colorado is seeking a part-time (30 hour / week) Executive Director (sometimes referred to as Chapter Administrator) (need to decide what the title is as it will drive applicant interest) to provide day-to-day oversight of the APA Colorado mission and operating plan. The Director works in cooperation with the Chapter’s President and 17 voting and 10 non-voting member Board.
Provide support to the President, the Executive Committee, all other Committees, and to the membership;
Oversee the organization's day to day financial management and coordination with the Treasurer;
Provide logistical and contractual support for the Annual Colorado Planning Conference (CPC), National Planning Conference (NPC) reception and regional events;
Solicit Chapter sponsors and coordinate sponsor benefits;
Support the development and implementation of organization's strategic development plan;
Work with APA Colorado’s legislative liaison (lobbyist) and Legislative Committee to advocate on behalf of APA Colorado’s legislative platform and priorities;
Provide technical support to the leaders of the Chapter's 6 geographic Areas;
Coordinate Chapter activities with APA National’s governance procedures and financial responsibilities;
Oversight of the Chapter’s communications including website, social media, newsletters and email campaigns; and
Carry out other duties as assigned by the President or Executive Committee or as specified in the Director's contract or employment agreement.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate increasingly advanced experience in management positions within the public, non-profit or private sector. More specifically:
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and fiscal management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with virtual and in-person meeting logistics
Coordination of 500-person annual conference with contract management experience with hotels, food and beverage and audio-visual setup
In-depth knowledge of financial reporting, analysis, and forecasting, including budget creation and oversight. Quick books or similar financial software system experience required.
Strong knowledge of the Colorado legislative process and lobbying practices
Fundraising and donor development experience
Experience working with boards of directors and an understanding of board governance
Requirements: The ideal candidate will be energetic and self-motivated, able to work collaboratively, and have excellent customer service skills. A Bachelor's degree is required, and preference will be given to candidates with education or experience in urban and regional planning, a related field, or association management. Event planning experience is required. The job is remote, requiring the candidate to provide a home office with associated telephone and internet service. Candidate must reside within Colorado and be able to attend meetings in the Denver Metro area on a regular basis, virtual meetings and occasional meetings across the state and ability to travel for one week twice a year to the National Planning Conference (spring) and Colorado Planning Conference (fall). Travel outside the Denver Metro area will be reimbursed. Hours may vary, but average 30 hours per week.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $50,000 per year. Actual salary will be commensurate with experience. This is a salary-based position and includes a matching retirement benefit and paid time off.
