Overview:
Psi Chi is the International Honor Society in Psychology whose mission is recognizing and promoting excellence in the science and application of psychology (www.psichi.org). The Social Media Community Manager (SMCM) is responsible for the daily management of Psi Chi’s social media channels (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn) and handles content development and posting, comment moderation, and community management. The role demands a broad scope of writing experience with journalistic sensibility and editorial experience. The SMCM must be an engaged communicator who is energized by the prospect of building relationships with chapter member communities and other psychology-related organizations.
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, three references, and writing samples and social media work. This is an exempt full-time position under FLSA and will report to the Director of Communications.
What You Will Do:
Psi Chi Headquarter Social Media Channels
- Creates original, high-quality content for current and prospective student/faculty/alumni.
- Monitors daily posts, responds to questions and negative feedback in a timely manner.
- Posts relevant content across different platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn).
- Organizes posts in a content calendar to ensure on-time delivery.
- Collaborates with internal staff to generate new posts and repurpose existing content.
Community Management
- Engages in online conversations with our chapters’ social channels and individual members.
- Leads community growth by being an expert resource and an active listener who is continually engaged with user feedback.
- Develops relationships with influencers to increase brand awareness.
- Serves as a trusted partner to Psi Chi chapters.
Regional Social Media Channels
- Manages, posts, and monitors six (6) regional Vice-President social media accounts.
- Works with regional VPs to develop content to grow regional engagement.
- Maintains consistent branding and tone ensuring all regional accounts are on-brand and relevant.
- Facilitates convention engagement with Facebook Live or other live streaming content during six (6) regional spring conventions.
Analytics
- Monitors and analyzes the performance of social media and Society events, pinpoints where they can be improved, and suggests strategies moving forward.
- Track campaigns and develops key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Creates reports to guide communication efforts and create future content for publications, website, podcasts, blog, etc.
- Researches social trends and news, and stay up to date on social tools and best practices.
- Performs keyword research and creates Google Grant ads that drive readers to website content.
Editorial
- Writes and solicits content for the Psi Chi blog through outreach to chapter officers and influencers.
- Supports editorial efforts including proofing and editing.
- Assists in the creation of new webpages based on existing CSS templates as needed.

Qualifications/Skills
Required
- Bachelor degree required in English, journalism, or communications-related field.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in the use of computer programs (Microsoft Office) for: word processing, databases, spreadsheets, Outlook e-mail, internet, and document management.
- Three (3+) years of related professional experience creating social media content across channels for an organization, company, or institution.
- Experience managing social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
- Knowledge of basic social media functions: hashtags, sharing posts, retweets, favorites, pinning, tagging, and influencers.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans and implement a social media strategy.
- Familiarity with SEO, search engine, social media and internet marketing industry trends, developments and best practices.
- Experience gathering and interpreting social media data.
- Experience with electronic and wireless communications to send email, transmit work, review copy, and proof online.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to write effectively under deadline for a variety of purposes, goals, audiences, and media.
- Flexibility to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Attention to detail, organized, self-motivated, and exceptional time management.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing communications needs.
