Are you an energetic, seasoned leader in events management with a strong sales and marketing background? The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), headquartered in Southfield, MI, is a nonprofit association of professionals, educators, and students committed to promoting and supporting the manufacturing industry, helping manufacturers innovate, grow, and prosper. They are seeking a Group Director of Events to lead event strategy and the overall delivery and execution of events for SME Events, including FABTECH, one of the largest trade shows in the country. This is an excellent opportunity to play a critical role in developing creative and strategic event solutions! SME offers generous benefits and flexible hours. This position can be remote or offers work-from-home flexibility for local candidates.
As the Group Director of Events, you will lead event strategy and the overall delivery of your assigned group portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Director of U.S. Events & Strategic Partnerships, you will manage, develop, and mentor a team of individuals including the Senior Account Manager, Account Rep II, Project Manager, and Technical Program Manager, and collaborate with cross-functional event teams to deliver on strategic event outcomes. As an integral leader, you will be responsible for event strategy and event team execution as well as the oversight of all aspects of event delivery, including financials. You will work under the direction of the Senior Leadership of Events and in collaboration with the Event Operations and Marketing functional leaders to ensure teams utilize standardized processes and tools, always looking to optimize staff performance.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or communications; a minimum of eight years of experience managing major trade shows and events; and a minimum of three years of direct people management experience. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of tradeshow and event management practices including sales, marketing, and content development, experience developing marketing strategies, and demonstrated financial and business acumen.
