Founded in 1877, the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) is the premier legal association in the state. As a voluntary organization of more than 28,000 members, the Association aims to assist Illinois lawyers in the practice of law and to promote improvements in the administration of justice. The Association engages in many important activities on behalf of the profession—among them proposing and shaping legislation, educating the public, and supporting the courts and the rule of law.
The ISBA seeks a highly motivated Manager of Section Services to manage section staff liaisons and the activities within the Section Services department. The Manager of Section Services provides tactical guidance and consultation to the staff liaisons and leadership to all ISBA sections. The Manager provides an overall perspective and develops and implements work plans (short- and/or long-term) to ensure that each section is viable, functions effectively, provides value to its members, and ensures continuity within the sections.
The position works collaboratively across ISBA departments and with section leaders to develop and implement operational plans to achieve section goals which support the ISBA’s mission.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Manage and direct the staff liaisons and manage other activities within the section services department.
- Provide guidance in interpreting policies and making recommendations on policies and guidelines affecting the department.
- Assist in the development and implementation of section-wide policies, systems, and processes that support sections and section officers.
- Manage the ISBA awards process.
- Provide coaching and oversight to liaison staff.
- Work with the assistant executive director to evaluate sections’ activities and viability, as well as strategies for advancing the mission of sections.
- Serve as the primary liaison to assigned sections.
- Provide overall direction in working with the section officers to support their strategic planning.
- Provide support to section leadership to develop section vision, mission, and goals, and assist section leaders with planning to meet goals.
- Attend section and committee meetings on a regular basis.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Executive Director, assist in the process of the nomination of section officers.
- Organize, prepare, and facilitate annual and midyear section meetings.
- Participate in department management and interdepartmental collaboration.

QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-5 years management experience
- Substantial organizational skills and flexibility to accommodate last minute change
- Detail oriented
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to work with a team to achieve Association goals
- Courtesy at all times in dealing with the public, Association members, and other staff
- Initiative and a strong work ethic
- Willingness to identify programmatic deficiencies or areas in which the Association can improve its operations or procedures
- Proficiency with MS Word and Excel, Adobe, Zoom and other means of electronic communication
REQUIREMENTS
A bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or prior relevant association or business work experience is required.
