Founded in 1877, the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) is the premier legal association in the state. As a voluntary organization of more than 28,000 members, the Association aims to assist Illinois lawyers in the practice of law and to promote improvements in the administration of justice. The Association engages in many important activities on behalf of the profession—among them proposing and shaping legislation, educating the public, and supporting the courts and the rule of law.
The ISBA seeks a highly motivated Section and Committee Staff Liaison & Coordinator to serve as the project facilitator and primary support staff for the department, Association committees and section councils, and the conduit between those groups and professional Association staff. This position also includes section and committee special event planning, coordination, and management (not including CLE programs) and may support the Association’s appointment process.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
As Coordinator:
- Provide administrative support to the Section Services Department, including all staff liaisons outside the department/CRO.
- Attend and staff various offsite Association meetings and events including the Annual and Midyear meetings.
- Coordinate with other Staff Liaisons and meeting venues on the planning and execution of business meetings, seminars, and special events of the Association held outside the offices.
- Track/record data, plan, and execute events related to section councils and committees.
- Prepare, distribute, and coordinate materials for the yearly section council and committee appointment process.
- Maintain and update the current rosters of the Association’s section councils and committees.
- Process event registration including any monetary transactions as needed.
As Staff Liaison:
- Prepare, at the direction of the chair, committee/section council agendas and other informational items.
- Be familiar with each group’s scope, its activities and budget.
- Be familiar with the Association’s strategic direction, policies, procedures, and initiatives in order to answer questions from committee/section council members and to help ensure that their activities are consistent with them.
- Facilitate committee/section council meeting schedules, space needs, and conference/Zoom calls.
- Facilitate committee/section council activities by promptly referring proposals for Association action to appropriate staff member.
- Participate in-person or via conference call at committee/section council meetings.
- In addition to the Annual and Midyear meetings, attend periodic Saturday meetings at the CRO.
- Oversee assigned section/committee communities on ISBA Central.

REQUIREMENTS
A bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or prior relevant association or work experience is required. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree or association experience, 5 years in project management work is required.
