Summary:
Through membership in Atla, theological and religious studies librarians, libraries, and strategic affiliates benefit from access to and participation in programs, services, and professional development offerings that provide connections to colleagues and collaborators and professional growth and advancement opportunities. The role of the Member Engagement Librarian is to ensure members are aware of and taking advantage of the benefits offered and to identify potential new services, programs, and collaborative opportunities. This position works in partnership with other Member Programs staff to foster positive and productive relationships with members and increase member engagement and satisfaction. This position works on membership engagement, retention, and recruitment initiatives by designing and executing member and prospect outreach activities and maintaining strong relationships with individual-type and institutional-type members. Further, this position is responsible for managing relationships and projects with members, committees, task forces, working groups, regional groups, interest groups, vendors, consultants, and colleagues as appropriate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Membership Retention, Recruitment, and Engagement
- Designs and executes member prospecting activities. Identifies potential new members and implements membership campaigns. Performs follow-up to convert prospects to members. Implements processes to welcome new members and follow up with non-renewing members.
- Independently evaluates all membership applications and determines if applicants are eligible for membership to make recommendations to the Director of Member Programs.
- Conducts research to evaluate current benefit programs and proposes new programs of interest to members. Makes recommendations to improve or sunset programs using knowledge gained by interaction with members, research, and experience with the library market.
- Utilizes Association Management System (AMS) to record and document member engagement and recruitment activities. Analyzes AMS data regularly to use in campaign development, membership analysis, etc.
- Maintains relationships with interest and denominational groups. Ensures groups are meeting expectations and facilitates their activities and operations. Explores opportunities for closer interaction with and between groups.
- Represents the Association at member visits, conferences, workshops, symposia, regional meetings, etc.
Member Program Promotion and Support
- Develops communication strategy in collaboration with other Member Programs staff to develop timely and professional marketing and outreach materials to members and potential collaborative partners to create awareness, usage, and contribution to member benefit programs.
- In collaboration with Digital Initiatives Librarian, analyzes participants and collections in the Atla Digital Library and other digital initiatives to develop strategies and programs for further participant recruitment, user outreach, and collection development.
- Supports marketing and outreach efforts of Atla Open Press to help create awareness among not only members but also current and prospective editors, authors, readers, libraries, archives, and other content collectors and creators to create awareness, participation, authorship, citation, and participation in the digital publishing initiatives of the Association.
- Engages with members to identify and/or evaluate new consortium offerings. Actively promotes existing consortium offerings and works to grow participation and awareness.
- Monitors activity, promotes, and grows participation in collaborative member programs for institutional-type members such as Atla Reciprocal Borrowing, Atla Serials Exchange, and others. Creates awareness and encourages participation in individual-type member benefits including volunteer and service opportunities.
- Assists in the identification of and participates in grants to support projects that promote the Association’s organizational ends.

Qualifications:
Required Experience
- Master’s degree in library and information science or equivalent field, or 4-6 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Computer skills required: Microsoft Office software suite or equivalent, Association Management (AMS) or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, online meeting system.
- Other skills required:
- Two years’ experience working in a library, cultural heritage organization, or affiliated educational, nonprofit, or professional organizations.
- Energetic, outgoing team player and self-starter.
- Excellent oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven proficiency in developing and executing outreach activities.
- Professional experience building relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Familiarity with trends, current technologies, and best practices in libraries and archives and/or religious studies and theology higher education.
Desirable Experience
- Degree in a field of theology or religion or two years’ experience working in a religious or theological higher education environment such as a theological or religious studies library.
Work Environment:
- Full-time, remote, work from home position – 37.5 hour work week
- US time zones and locations only
- Typical working hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Central Monday through Friday
