ISPOR−The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research is seeking an experienced learning development/education professional for a new position of Director, Learning Development.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director, Learning Development will lead the expansion of ISPOR’s existing high quality education programs while creating and building new digitally delivered curriculum-based learning offerings, essentially from the ground up. Health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) play a critical role in helping to achieve greater efficiency and sustainability, establish stronger linkages between evidence and health policymaking, and contribute to the enhancement of health equity and access. ISPOR’s education programs are at the core of our value proposition to our members and stakeholders and essential components of our mission to advance health economics and outcomes research excellence to improve decision making for health globally.
ISPOR’s LEARNING DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
There is strong commitment to the strategic development of learning programs including identifying and defining the education needs of our audiences, and the selection and implementation of LMS platform technology. The Director, Learning Development will develop learning programs that are aligned with our Conferences and other products and activities, and work collaboratively to develop our portfolio of products supporting the value proposition for our members and stakeholders. The Director will also assess department staffing needs and define and hire new positions as the growth plan is developed. The Learning Development team under the Director’s leadership is responsible for:
Development of Education Strategy to inform existing and new programs, product design, delivery, and continuous improvement
- Leverage ISPOR’s HEOR competencies framework, science strategy, Top 10 HEOR Trends, and our content taxonomy in the overall development of the Education Strategic and Business Plans
- Analysis of current programs and content to identify gaps and opportunities
Design new education programs/products and redesign existing programs/products
- to provide high quality learning opportunities that advance the development and application of HEOR excellence, fulfill member education needs and achieve revenue targets
- Identify and define HEOR core curriculum (developed with ISPOR’s Chief Science Officer and Associate Chief Science Officer)
- Leverage identified HEOR “hot topics” and existing content to develop learning programs and revenue streams
Manage education programs and products
- to achieve efficient processes and excellent learner and faculty experience.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Director, Learning Development is responsible for strategic development of ISPOR’s learning programs to deliver high quality HEOR curricular based guided learning programs delivered in multiple formats and including both in-person and virtual programs. The Director, working with the Chief and Associate Chief Science Officers and ISPOR Councils and Committees, develops curricula to design and deliver effective programs that achieve learning objectives and revenue goals. Responsibilities include the design and delivery of the attendee, instructor and volunteer experience and ensuring that ISPOR learning programs deliver content effectively and achieve learning objectives as part of the overall ISPOR portfolio of products. The Director works collaboratively with internal cross functional teams and volunteer groups to achieve Learning Development business objectives, ISPOR’s strategic goals, learner expectations, and financial targets.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Develop learning development strategy with collaboration from key stakeholders, offering a core HEOR curricula (developed with the Chief and Associate Chief Science Officers and Volunteer Leaders)
- Develop overall curricula-based learning program strategy, and business plans including development of revenue streams and budgets.
- Develop and lead creation of learning curricula and delivery timelines that incorporate internal timelines (e.g., marketing requirements) and external deadlines (e.g., to secure subject matter expert participation and vendor deadlines).
- Continually assess, adjust, and redesign the overall learner experience to ensure that ISPOR is delivering innovative and effective ways to learn and interact, including management and development of content evaluation and user analytics.
- Work with Learning Development staff and faculty to ensure the highest level of professional development for learners.
- Partner with the Marketing/Communications staff develop effective campaigns to reach current and prospective registrants/users.
- Act as the staff liaison for the Education Council and Short Course Committee.
- Develop and select Short Course and Training portfolio, working with both internal scientific staff and external Short Course and Education Committees, establishing clear and transparent criteria for the selection process that utilizes program metrics and evaluation data.
- Develop and grow programs including traditional and non-traditional learning formats, through in-person, virtual and hybrid learning models, aligned with conference and other strategies, including development and implementation of new online e-Learning program. Business owner responsibilities for Learning Management System.
- With input from Sponsorship Strategy and Exhibits & Partnerships teams, develop Sponsored Training programs and oversee delivery of programs.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of trends and good practices particularly related to instructional design, adult learning, virtual training, and curricula content strategies. Serves as an in-house expert on instructional design methodologies.

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- 7+ years’ progressive work experience in education/learning development required, Association experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of education and content delivery methods required, healthcare/scientific education knowledge preferred.
- Experience in development of education programs, training, and e-learning development required.
- Familiarity and prior experience with online content delivery platforms/learning management systems required.
- Budget management experience required.

OUR LOCATION
Nestled half-way between Philadelphia and New York City, ISPOR’s headquarters is in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Our staff work in multiple work location arrangements: in-office, hybrid (2 days in office), and fully remote. Preference for this position is a hybrid work arrangement in our Lawrenceville, NJ location but remote arrangements will also be considered.
