ASIS International, a professional membership organization located in Alexandria, VA with 34,000 global members, is seeking candidates to serve as a Communications Specialist.
This position will work collaboratively with the Director, Communications and Communications Manager to elevate the organization’s profile across the security profession, enhance the delivery of content and information to our members, and increase global engagement to elevate the brand’s reputation.
Working collaboratively across the entire ASIS team to develop engaging, interactive, and effective content for e-newsletters, magazines, blogs, emails, and social media that supports organizational priorities and the ASIS Strategic Plan (includes member profiles and certification spotlights).
Support media, exhibitors, and interview subjects as needed in the lead-up to and in the on-site Press Room at the organization’s annual conference, Global Security Exchange (GSX).
Create compelling videos that showcase member stories, the value of ASIS programs, and important strategic updates for member newsletters, ASIS and event sites, social media, and email marketing campaigns.
Support blog and social media campaigns for various program areas as needed, potentially including conceiving ideas, drafting copy, scheduling posts, and measuring effectiveness (e.g., Google Analytics). Monitor discussions on social sites (e.g., LinkedIn groups), identify topic trends and advise on potential opportunities to increase overall engagement.
Write and edit press releases, emails, and collateral for accuracy, clarity, and consistent messaging.

ASIS offers a dynamic work environment with an excellent employee benefits package including a rich health insurance program and generous 401(k) and PTO leave plans. This position will primarily work remotely at first as ASIS continues in a work-from-home environment for the near future. In 2022, we expect to transition to an in-person/hybrid working environment at our Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia office.
The most successful candidate will possess:
A bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, or another related field, with at least 2-4 years in a communications position with proven skills in project management, content development, social engagement, public relations; experience that shows strategic, creative, and analytical thinking.
Experience in an association, non-profit, or within the security industry is highly desired.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms. Familiarity with social media monitoring tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Falcon.io, etc.) and member database systems.
Familiarity with Google Analytics and web content management systems. Familiarity with video and web editing tools (e.g., WordPress) and design programs (e.g., Adobe Photoshop).
We are seeking an individual who is a results-driven team player with excellent communication (written and oral) and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate and listen well. Strong interpersonal skills—able to interact with diverse variety of customers (both internal and external). Must be a good problem solver with excellent analytical/organizational skills and have strong attention to detail and time management.
