Director of Credentialing Job Description:
The Utility Safety & Ops Leadership Network is looking for a performance driven leader for its industry leading Certified Utility Safety Professional CUSP program. The ideal candidate is forward thinking and proficient operating in both the online and onsite environments. Prior experience in building and marketing certification programs is a definite plus for this position. Your performance will be measured by the growth and retention of the certification and membership community.
The CUSP Program Director will oversee all aspects of the CUSP certification and will serve as the primary point of contact for certification candidates as they go through the application process and credential holders that are working towards recertification. This person will also collaborate with the USOLN board, certification staff and volunteers to execute project plans that implement best practices to ensure a high quality certification program.

The Utility Safety & Ops Leadership Network USOLN develops and administers the Certified Utility Safety Professional certifications for utilities and their contractor partners within the U.S. and Canada. The organization serves as an advocate for a safe, secure and productive utility work environment and as a catalyst for the prevention of incidents.
In this position, you will serve as an employee of Utility Business Media who provides your services as part of a long-term association management service contract. UBM is a leading producer and publisher of education and events dedicated to the utility safety and operations leadership community.
Responsibilities typically include the following:
- The Certification Program Director is responsible for researching, planning, developing, implementing and growing the organization’s certification programs.
- Ensure that the CUSP certification is a valid and trusted credential within the utility industry.
- Administer the application review and approval process using best practices to assess and determine the eligibility of candidates to take the CUSP exam.
- Direct CUSP online exam administration including review and approval of the roster for each exam cohort and notification of results.
- Oversee the CUSP recertification process to promote the continued competence of CUSP credential holders through continuing professional development.
- Stay abreast of certification trends and best practices to continuously improve the CUSP certification.
- Recruit and work with volunteers who serve on USOLN committees that support the CUSP certification.
- Serve and support the CUSP community by building strong communications with individuals seeking to earn the credential as well as assisting active credential olders in maintaining their credentials.
- Attend USOLN Board meetings and be prepared to respond to questions/concerns as needed.
- Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators to provide regular performance reviews of USOLN and CUSP programs.
- Develop and maintain USOLN board intranet site.
- Participate in creating and delivering effective marketing/communications within the organization.
- Build a strong team through open communication and collaboration.
- Initiate and set goals for programs based on the organization’s strategic objectives.
- Plan programs from start to finish, including identifying processes, deadlines and milestones.
- Develop and approve budgets and forecasts with the leadership team and board.
- Coordinate with the utility industry exam development team to produce and continuously improve certification exams.

Preferred Experience, Education, and Certification:
- At least 5 years of experience working for a certification body
- 4-year Bachelor’s degree
- Certified Assessment and Credentialing Professional (CACP) or willingness to become certified within the first year of employment.
