The North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) is a trade association of 550+ foodservice equipment and supplies manufacturers providing products for food preparation, cooking, storage, and table service.
NAFEM has emerged as a foodservice industry leader and equips its members to succeed with a variety of products and services. They represent the industry in Washington and support programs and organizations that move the industry forward. NAFEM offers educational opportunities to ensure that the next generation of young professionals is prepared for the foodservice industry’s future direction. They stay on the cutting edge of current trends and emerging issues to provide members and the industry at-large with leadership and expertise.
NAFEM is located in downtown Chicago, with a staff of 7 and a two year operating budget of $11 million.
The Vice President, Programs & Partnerships will participate in the development, implementation and oversight of programs and services for Association members and Association industry partnerships in keeping with the values, purpose and mission to ensure the long-term viability of the organization. The position is a Chicago-based position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Organizational structure. Recommend changes to the organizational structure of the Association to support member programs and partnerships in keeping with the integrity of NAFEM’s Core Values, Purpose and Mission
EVP and Committee Chairs: Identify and communicate significant Association issues and industry news to the executive vice president and committee chairs on a timely basis to optimize program and partnership effectiveness.
Financial: Monitor, report and achieve budgetary requirements to ensure financial stability and stewardship, including presenting periodic reviews of programs and partnerships to the executive vice president and, as applicable, to the board of directors.
Human Resources Management: Manage the selection, training, development and assessment of the program and partnership support team.
Association Communications: Seek input for and prepare the Association’s viewpoint for presentation to the membership, partners, and the industry at-large.
Governance: Advise the executive vice president regarding implementation of the Association’s programs, committee activities and partnerships, and provide counsel to ensure continually relevant committee governance, program development and partnership relationships.
Strategic Planning: Participate in the development and implementation of the Association’s strategic plan.
Culture: Promote a culture that ensures adherence to the Association’s Core Values, Purpose and Mission.
Outside Service Providers: Manage outside suppliers and partners to maximize program delivery and partner relationships, ensuring integrity to the Association’s Core Values, Purpose and Mission.
Industry Relations: Represent the Association, build relationships and keep abreast of issues that affect NAFEM members and the industry at-large
Programs oversight. Oversee strategic planning for programs and partnerships. Direct all market research activities, including Member Needs, Size & Shape of the Industry, Business Planning, Wage and Compensation studies, and other research directed by the board. Plan and implement member value programs (education, partnerships, training certification, etc.).
Partnerships. Strategic planning and implementation for relationships. Counsel to executive vice president on NAFEM program/partnership role.
Communicates regularly externally with committee chairs and working group members as applicable on programs and partnerships.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Masters preferred
Ten years trade association experience in business development, marketing and/or member relations.
Effective leadership skills to convey a vision of NAFEM strategic future to staff, volunteers, executive management and industry.
Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and industry groups.
Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
Transparent and high integrity leadership.
Strong project management skills.
Strong public speaking ability.
Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, establishment of metrics, decision-making and reporting.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Travel ability to travel (domestically and internationally) and work flexible hours when necessary.
