The Editorial Freelancers Association seeks a strong and effective professional with outstanding ability to motivate individuals and teams and superior administrative, operational, human resources, and technology skills. The primary roles of this position are to coordinate with and support our active Board and other volunteers across a range of programs; to ensure that EFA members and the public receive exceptional assistance as needed; and to ensure that the staff functions at the highest levels to achieve full implementation of programs, support, and assistance.
The general manager (GM) reports to our co-executives and works closely with them, assisting with payments, meetings, correspondence, member contact, Board onboarding and offboarding, and other duties. They will liaise with the Board to ensure that the Board’s overall staffing needs are met, assist with meetings and projects themselves as appropriate, and attend the monthly Board meeting.
The general manager supervises a staff of 3 part-time employees. The GM manages the physical office, oversees maintenance of computer hardware and software, and will be comfortable working and supervising in physical, virtual, and hybrid office environments. They provide an annual budget proposal for office and staff and manage the approved budget. They ensure coordination and completion of tasks and projects among the staff. They are responsible for human resources functions such as maintaining the employee handbook, compliance, time records, and payroll. The GM works with the bookkeeper to process the EFA’s payments and help maintain its financial records.
The general manger will have experience with websites that face members as well as the public; with membership data and payment management; and with online education. The GM works with Board members, staff, and website developers to maintain, upgrade, and enhance the EFA website’s front end and its back-end functionality.
The GM has technical, content, and strategic roles in the EFA’s communications program. They are responsible for overseeing the EFA’s Groups.io, Zoom, Dropbox, Asana, Mailchimp and other communications accounts. As well, they manage the EFA’s domain email account. They create and oversee several regular and numerous ad hoc eblasts to inform and engage members and they assist Board members with others.
With other staff, the general manager provides logistical and administrative support to Board members, our conference consultant, and member volunteers creating and our running biannual national conference and its website.

Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum of 6-8+ years management experience
Completion of two EFA-provided EDI training modules
Passion for serving individual members and the editorial freelancing community
Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into programs, projects, or teams
Senior staff experience within an individual-member, Board-run association or literary organization highly preferred
Exceptional oral and written communications skills, including familiarity with major style guides
Highly detail and goal oriented
Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong capacity to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with Board members and staff
Superior knowledge of computer and digital platforms and tools including WordPress, Google Drive, Groups.io, Zoom, WordPress (and basic HTML), Asana, and others
Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously
