The President has full responsibility and accountability for the success, mission accomplishment, and financial viability of the Decorative Hardwoods Association. The President provides leadership, working under the general priorities and guidance of the Board of Directors, to formulate and pursue the vision and mission of the organization, as expressed in DHA’s five-year strategic plan. The President provides overall direction of internal and external policy and program development and oversees all organizational operations. The President serves as the chief spokesperson for the organization and primary liaison with the wood products and business community. The President is also primarily responsible for developing revenue sources to support approved programs. The President holds office at the pleasure of the Board and reports directly to the Board. The President has the power to designate, appoint, or remove agents or employees of the organization.
Provides dynamic leadership to protect and promote the interests of the decorative engineered hardwoods industry.
Demonstrates dynamic leadership skills, and preferably in-depth knowledge of the public policy issues relative to the wood products industry.
Displays strong organizational and supervisory skills, including planning, delegating, and program development, and creates a “team” spirit with staff, volunteers, committees, and Board of Directors.
Responsible for maintaining the financial integrity, sustainability, and growth of DHA, as well as individual and corporate member relations.
Participates in the activities of the Hardwood Federation, AF&PA, and the AWC.
Develops an operational annual budget and operating plan from the Board-approved five-year strategic plan.
Serves as primary spokesperson for DHA.
Implements Board-approved policies and procedures for day-to-day operations.
Supervises and collaborates with organization’s staff.
Organizes, oversees, and attends organization’s Board and committee meetings. • Responsible for annual audit preparation. • Reports and works closely with Board of Directors on policy development and strengthening the continuity of goals and programs. • Performs other duties as assigned by Board of Directors.
• Oversees marketing and communications efforts.
• Reviews and approves contracts for services within Board-established policies.
• Oversees that the accreditation of Capital Testing is current.
At least 10 years of experience in influential leadership positions related to forest products industry advocacy.
At least 15 years of experience managing nonprofits or business including supervising.
A thorough understanding of public policy and government affairs and how nonprofit organizations can be influential.
A thorough understanding of current forest products public policy issues and regulatory systems.
A dynamic leadership style with the ability to communicate effectively with other executives at all levels, relationship building, public speaking experience, and fundraising.
Successful experience working with a nonprofit board of directors.
A motivated, self-starter who can work with minimum supervision.
The ability to balance multiple projects and relationships while focusing on mission accomplishment, financial sustainability, the strategic plan, and day-to-day supervision of staff and relationship with the Board of Directors.

Founded in 1921, the Decorative Hardwoods Association represents over 90% of the hardwood veneer, hardwood plywood, and engineered hardwood flooring manufacturers in North America. Formerly known as the Hardwood Plywood and Veneer Association, the associations mission is to support and promote high quality, sustainably and legally produced decorative engineered products and hardwood veneer.
