The Association of American Universities, an association of America’s leading research universities, seeks applications for the position of Editorial Officer. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Communications. The Editorial Officer will support AAU’s mission by preparing, reviewing, and distributing various written materials which AAU uses to communicate with its core constituencies and the broader public.
The Editorial Officer will work quickly and skillfully, in a fast-paced and collegial environment, to write and/or edit news releases, constituent newsletters, and other written products that communicate AAU’s views to members and the public. This includes rapidly synthesizing complex subject matter into digestible content for both internal and external audiences. Applicants should have a proven ability to write, edit, and produce effective communications rapidly and a demonstrated mastery of AP style and standard English grammar. This mastery includes spelling, punctuation, and strong proofreading skills. Familiarity with federal legislative, administrative, and budgetary processes are a plus.
The Editorial Officer will support AAU’s public relations objectives through daily media monitoring, research, and reporting. Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues and explain them effectively through a variety of media as well as the ability to synthesize disparate pieces of information about complex topics rapidly into coherent and concise messages. Applicants should have strong technical expertise in MS Word as well as other Office 365 programs and Zoom; experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud (or Pardot), a media monitoring tool (such as Meltwater), and proficiency with software related to email distribution and content management.
