Who You Are We are looking for a motivated and conscientious Chief Financial Officer who is ready to jump in and assist on multiple initiatives and oversee the Finance and Accounting department. Experience in managing Human Resources is a plus. To succeed in this role, you will have strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and problem solving - skills.
The ideal candidate must have: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required (MBA preferred) • CPA required • 3-5 years supervisory experience • Minimum 5-10 years of accounting/finance experience • A mixture of for profit and not for profit experiences, preferred • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite • Proficient with QuickBooks Premier, preferred
Who We Are We are two related nonprofit organizations with shared staff (that is, many staff working for both organizations, but with just one supervisor) located in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. We provide professional development opportunities for dental assistants and other dental auxiliaries, such as testing, professional certification, and online education; we also conduct research to promote the profession and public health. We are a small, friendly office that is driven by our related public protection missions. I. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A. Financial Information (20 – 25%) • Oversee the issuance of financial information (e.g., to DANB and DALE Foundation Boards, state and federal agencies, banks and vendors and potential vendors) • Oversee all federal and state tax form submissions • Serve as corporate liaison to banking and investment companies • Review and analyze DANB and DALE Foundation financial statements • Direct the reporting of financial information to the Boards and related committees
B. Operations (20%) • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team • Maintain good working relations with all members of the management team • Manage the accounting/finance and facilities functions (depending on job candidate’s background, managing human resources personnel may also be a function) • Implement operational best practices through review and revision of policies and procedures C. Planning and Strategy (15 – 20%) • Assist in formulating the organization’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives (visioning and implementation) • Develop and analyze reports reflecting real time data related to revenue or expense trends, and make appropriate recommendations to the CEO • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes • Develop financial and tax strategies • Identify cost saving opportunities
D. Risk Management (15 – 20%) • Construct and monitor reliable control systems • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage • Ensure organization complies with legal and regulatory requirements • Ensure recordkeeping meets requirements of auditors • Create business continuity succession plan in conjunction with CIO
E. Benefits Administration (5%) • Oversee vetting and selection of cost effective / competitive offerings prior to annual Open Enrollment period for staff health and welfare benefits plans • Maintain fiduciary responsibility for 401k Retirement Plan
F. Supervisory (10-15%) • Supervise, coordinate and assign activities of staff in department • Interview job applicants and make hiring recommendations • Evaluate staff performance to recommend personnel actions such as hiring, retention, promotion, transfer or dismissal • Train/instruct and develop staff
G. Board of Directors/Trustees, Committees, Policy Activities (5%) • Serve as primary staff liaison to the DANB Finance Committee, DANB Audit Committee and the DALE Foundation Finance and Audit Committee • Draft Board reports on behalf of the DANB Audit Committee, DANB Finance Committee and the DALE Foundation Finance and Audit Committee • Develop or direct development of reports related to the responsibilities of this position • Attend and present at the DANB and DALE Foundation Board and Committee meetings
H. Miscellaneous (5 %) • Provide support to direct report positions as needed • Participate in training as needed • Perform other duties as assigned
