The Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants (COCPA) is the statewide, not-for-profit professional association serving Colorado CPAs and the public for over 100 years. Founded in 1904, the COCPA comprises over 6,500 members, most of whom live and work in Colorado. Members are CPAs in public practice, industry, education, and government; non-CPAs on the professional staff of a Colorado CPA or CPA firm; Colorado accounting faculty; accounting professionals employed in industry; and students enrolled in a qualified accounting program.
The organization seeks a qualified candidate to succeed the current director who decided to relocate to Virginia where her family lives. With the naming of the new Member Services Director, the position will be restructured in collaboration with the COCPA team.
The COCPA has been focused on five strategic initiatives since 2015: Content management and delivery; leadership development; innovation culture and competency (internally); member and customer service; and sustainability for the organization.
In April, 2016, the COCPA moved from a PC-based environment and hardware/software to a cloud-based environment using Google Drive, apps, and laptops.
In summer 2017, the COCPA began an office renovation which involved creating open, collaborative spaces coupled with personal work spaces for all staff which feature sit/stand desks. The new office environment was completed in fall 2017.
In summer 2018, the COCPA launched its new website and association management system (AMS) customized by its marketing, communications, and IT partner. The implementation process continues.

The Member Services Director works with volunteer COCPA members and staff in developing and implementing programs, activities, and resources to further the organization’s mission to support members in providing quality professional services to serve the public and encourage the best and brightest students to pursue an accounting career.
The position, as mentioned previously, will be restructured to take advantage of the new director’s expertise, particularly in the areas of member and student recruitment, orientation, and retention; accounting faculty relations and support; and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
The new Director will supervise the member services staff - currently four individuals including the receptionist, two member services representatives, and a membership development coordinator (currently vacant) who works with members in other locations across Colorado. In 1 addition, the Director will supervise the peer review coordinator until the new peer review structure is implemented.
Responsibilities include hiring, training, and supervising staff, coordinating member services efforts with others, both staff and volunteers, and participating in management team meetings with the CEO, CFO, and Continuing Professional Education Director.
The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive experience in working with volunteers, familiarity with the professional association environment, and a strong desire to serve. Specific criteria include:
Minimum eight years experience in the association management profession
General knowledge of the CPA profession
Proven membership recruitment and retention experience
Excellent communication skills including writing, presentations, and group collaboration
Budgeting and accounting experience
Proficiency in computer skills - the COCPA uses Apple MacBook Pro laptops, Google Drive, and Google apps. PC experience is acceptable.
College graduate desired
Able to pass background and credit checks

Supervise the Member Services team and lead in developing, implementing, and evaluating the member services administrative activities, including:
Recruitment and retention efforts to maintain and grow COCPA membership and member use of COCPA services
Annual membership dues budget development, billing, and collection
Membership database management, including regular update and maintenance
Support of chapters located across Colorado
Resume and referral services maintenance
Reception desk staffing
Partnership/affinity programs development and implementation
Networking events support
Accounting faculty and students events development and support
Visit COCPA members across the state.
Serve as staff liaison to the Accounting Careers Committee and other groups TBD. 2
Manage promotion and sale of CCH tax and other publications.
Assist in responding to members’ and others’ questions.
Participate in management team meetings and support relationships among staff
