Are you looking for a rewarding financial career in the non-profit sector? The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) in Washington, DC is seeking a Controller to join their team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will ensure that organizational objectives are met by analyzing and maintaining the association’s schedules and systems as directed by the CFO. This hands-on financial leader will also complete administrative duties related to organizational needs and act as a liaison with other departments to maintain reliable financial reports.
Major Responsibilities include:
Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements and conduct analysis of the major balance sheet and income statement accounts.
Prepare monthly accruals including accruals for meetings that have taken place in the month reported on or prior months.
Supervise reconciliation of meeting revenue.
Prepare and review monthly journal entries.
Scan general ledger on a regular basis and reclassify any posting errors.
Complete analysis of financial results including financial trends and budget variances with developing recommendations.
Review and manage internal control policies and evaluate effectiveness on an ongoing basis.
Review and update the Accounting Procedures Manual and schedule of duties, including recommending changes.
Ensure department is properly cross-trained.
Review bi-weekly payroll, payroll taxes, and employee benefits payroll deductions; serve as back-up to payroll processor.
Review payroll compliance with government regulations and NBAA policies.
Review vendor invoices and employee expense reports prior to payment.
Supervise the collection process of past due amounts including coordinating meetings with other departments responsible for billing and collections; propose write-offs of uncollectible balances owed.
Manage the credit card merchant account processing, including adding new accounts when necessary.
Coordinate the annual audit and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; including managing preparation and support of all external audits.
Prepare business insurance renewals.
Assist in preparation of IRS Form 990, 990T, and other federal and state tax forms.
Coordinate NBAA’s budget process.
Manage the Financial Report Writing Software-One Stop Reporting (OSR) administration.
Manage financial databases including the MS Dynamics SL (Solomon) financial accounting database, iMIS database, Concur Expense Report software and accounts payable data base.
Manage the Fixed Asset Software (FAS) administration.
NBAA is seeking candidates with an accredited Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area plus at least seven years of accounting experience in a computerized environment. Qualified candidates will possess at least five years of supervising three or more staff members and have experience with automated accounts receivable, member management database system, and credit card processing. Candidates should have a CPA license and experience with Microsoft Dynamics SL (Solomon), iMIS database, One Stop Reporter software, Fixed Asset Software (FAS), and Accounts Payable Document Retention software (preferably PN3). Ideal candidates will also have not-for-profit experience with trade associations.
