The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), a non-profit membership association of over 200,000 current and retired federal employees, is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the earned pay, retirement and health care benefits of federal employees, retirees and their survivors and providing the information and guidance needed to understand and maximize complex federal benefits. NARFE is the go-to resource for the federal community, policy makers, the media and the press on issue related to legislation and federal benefits.
We are looking for a self-motivated, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to work closely with the Budget & Finance team to bring about operational efficiencies and best-practices as NARFE continues to evolve into a more modern association. Specifically as part of this role, you would:
Process bi-weekly and monthly payroll runs. Transmit payroll files to the bank and generate payroll checks as needed. Electronically, transmit files and funds for retirement and insurance plans, process and transmit all other payroll deductions and withholdings. Transmit all employer and employee payroll taxes.
Reconcile payroll bank statement. Allocate health, dental and other payroll costs to departments monthly.
Analyze and follow up on monthly budget variances and provide departmental budget reports.
Assist with preparing all monthly financial and cash statements and payroll reports.
Prepare and distribute monthly financial and operating statements and supporting schedules.
Maintain fixed assets database, post monthly depreciation and track asset disposals.
Our ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and five (5) to seven (7) years of experience. CPA is preferred. You should also have:
Knowledge of organizational fiduciary, budgetary and financial methods and practices, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees and members.
Ability to present financial/budgetary information to numerous audiences, including board members and staff.
Working knowledge of multiple financial and association management systems.
