The American Student Dental Association (ASDA) was founded in 1971 and is the largest dental student organization in the United States. With a membership of more than 24,000, ASDA represents 94% of dental students from all 66 dental schools. ASDA’s mission is to protect and advance the rights, interests and welfare of dental students. The association introduces students to lifelong involvement in organized dentistry and provides services, information, education, representation and advocacy. ASDA representatives vote in the ADA House of Delegates, sit on most ADA councils and commissions and comprise one of the most respected student organizations in the nation.
ASDA is located off Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, with a staff of 14 and an operating budget of $4.5 million.
Directs membership initiatives and develops business plans to achieve strategic plan goals. Responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of the membership recruitment and engagement strategy. Manage membership operations and development. Builds relationships with dental school administrators and members.
Reviews, evaluates and analyzes membership trends, needs and participation to track and grow recruitment, retention and involvement.
Develops short- and long-term member retention plans and strategies to expand and engage members.
Manages and implements the messaging and data strategy to recruit and retain members.
Develops and manages process for regularly identifying member and potential member needs. Creates a member value proposition. Assesses and recommends member benefits to ensure value to members.
Monitors chapter operations, governance and activities. Assesses and recommends resources to assist chapters.
Administers membership policies and standard operating procedures.
Oversees all operations of the association database, including modifications, upgrades and issues for quality assurance.
Provides superior customer service and support for the association's membership.
Works with staff to develop marketing, communication and advertising materials that better describe the value of membership.
Provides oversight for the implementation of marketing initiatives supporting the annual membership recruitment and retention plan.
Develops and manages annual membership budget.
Develops and facilitates webinars, including the selection of topics and presenters.
Develops e-newsletter content for The Polished Predental and New Leader.
Serves as the staff liaison to the Council on Membership and Predental Advisory Committee. Attends meetings and conference calls, prepares agendas and meeting minutes, and coordinates activities.
Manages Gold Crown Chapter Achievements Award and Membership Outreach Grant programs.
Other projects as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field.
Seven to ten years’ work experience in related field; association experience preferred.
Proven project and financial management skills and previous membership and chapter development work in an association environment.
Proficiency and experience with association management software.
Ability to lead teams to successfully carry out projects and meet strategic goals.
Excellent leadership, strategic oversight, managerial, planning and organizational skills.
Experience managing and mentoring staff.
Demonstrated experience in managing budgets.
Strong analytical skills; ability to problem solve, multi-task and create new ideas to grow membership.
Ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Some travel and weekend/overtime work required.
