The Rail Passengers Association (formerly known as the National Association of Railroad Passengers) is looking for an experienced, energetic development professional with a proven track record to join our small DC-based team as Vice President of Resource Development.
The Association seeks to expand its staff with a full-time professional to create, direct and execute a broad range of resource development and fundraising activities. This position is externally focused and will be responsible for planning, designing, and executing integrated resource development strategies, particularly but not limited to: expanding funding and grant support from corporate, foundation, and major individual donors. The successful candidate will be expected to cultivate extensive personal contacts in pursuit of these objectives. Collaborating with fellow staff members to help increase membership, strengthen member retention, improve member benefits, and develop a strong prospect database using both traditional mailings and electronic and social media tools are also priorities.
This position will report to the President/CEO and will provide his/her accomplishments to the Board at every Board meeting.

Major Donor Campaigns
Foundation/grant proposal writing
Corporate Donor development
Sponsorship of Events
History of engaging a Board of Directors and senior staff in fundraising activities
Membership Acquisition and Renewals
Direct Solicitation Campaigns
Enhancement of value-added member services
5-10 years of professional fundraising experience, preferably with a non-profit membership organization
Excellent communication skills across all levels of management both inside and outside of the organization
Ability to be a team player
Ability to drive initiatives independently
Ability to identify and personally solicit potential major donors
Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
A strong desire to make a difference
Bachelor's degree is preferred
